Speedrun Guide
Speedrunning Project: Escape Room means shaving minutes off a clean clear by committing routes, pre-positioning during animations, and skipping optional observations on repeat runs. This hub covers community-reported clear-time benchmarks, per-map route differences, and YouTube speedrun references. All times are solo estimates — co-op runs are faster on maps with natural split points (Bank vault, Lab control room). Puzzle answers may change after Serif Games patches; always verify keypad codes in-game.
What actually saves time in a speedrun
These principles require no scripts or executors — just smarter routing and muscle memory.
- Commit to one route per map before the first clear. The confusion cost of switching mid-run ("did I already get the screwdriver?") compounds faster than any route difference.
- Pre-position during animations. Walk toward the next door while a keypad is opening, or open inventory while a cutscene plays. Standing still for two seconds per room adds two minutes per map.
- In maps with branching paths — Bank vault side vs main corridor, Pyramid coffin vs hourglass — the vault and compass routes save roughly 45–60 seconds on repeat runs.
- Skip optional observations on repeat runs. School art cupboard scissors, Prison warden wire cutters, and Spaceship engineering crowbar are all speedrun shortcuts once you know the room layout.
- Timer discipline: screenshot your current objective if you are past the halfway point and still stuck. A planned re-run beats an untracked mess every time.
Community-reported clear-time benchmarks
No official Serif Games timing data exists; these are community-reported solo ranges from YouTube and forum posts.
- School Beginner: 4–6 minutes. The shortest map; good warm-up and route-practice before harder maps.
- Zoo Beginner: 5–7 minutes. Colour button sequence and gift-shop math (51.50) are both short; practice the bus-bill count.
- Prison Beginner: 6–8 minutes. Cell block 7863 and shower wire colours are the main time variables.
- Bank Beginner: 8–10 minutes. Vault kit placement and laser hallway routing are the biggest differentiators between 8-minute and 10-minute clears.
- Pyramid Beginner: 7–9 minutes. Hourglass fill levels and compass rotations are the primary route; skip the magnifying-glass check on repeat runs.
- Temple Beginner: 7–10 minutes. Gem collection order and brazier lighting pattern are both short; throne 2741 is the main checkpoint.
- Spaceship Beginner: 7–9 minutes. Math table and breaker switches are the main sequence; escape pod code 4715 is the final checkpoint.
- Pirate Ship Beginner: 8–10 minutes. Card matching and cannon order (1–6) are the main time variables.
- Santa's Workshop Beginner: 8–10 minutes. Robot assembly and gift-wrapping mini-games are both short; safe code 1245 is the final gate.
- Lab Beginner: 9–12 minutes. Chemistry tubes, periodic table, and the control room (Water 4 / Food 2 / O₂ 27% / Temp 75) make this the longest non-Office map.
- Office Beginner: 9–12 minutes. Cubicle prop chain → vending D36 → Manager safe → elevator 314256 → reception colours. The longest map.
- Office Challenge: 10–14 minutes. The additional observation steps on office screens add ~1–2 minutes over Beginner.
Per-map speedrun route differences
Office (biggest speedrun difference)
Both modes share the same room chain, but Challenge adds observation steps on the cubicle prop screens. The lobby sign determines which sheet is active — check it before you type. A Community video (Dragonsubmann, 7B6vjCHyhhs) covers the full Beginner chain from cubicle 7 to reception.
Pyramid
Beginner skips the magnifying-glass inspection step; Challenge adds it. On repeat Beginner runs, the hourglass route saves ~45 seconds over the coffin route. A clean Beginner run in 7–9 minutes is a good baseline before flipping to Challenge.
Temple
The brazier lighting is more time-sensitive in Challenge, but the throne code 2741 and gem order are identical. Solo clears in 7–10 minutes are common; co-op with a spotter can push below 7 minutes.
Lab
The control room final sequence (Water 4, Food 2, O₂ 27%, Temperature 75) takes 60–90 seconds alone. In co-op, pre-assign the reader and doer roles before entering the room. The red button must be held (not tapped) on the shutter key box — a tap-and-release closes the shutter mid-sequence.
YouTube speedrun references
These community videos show actual speedrun attempts and fast clears. Puzzle answers may change after Serif Games patches — always cross-check keypad codes in-game.
- Speed3D — "Lab Speedrun in Project: Escape Room" (NP7sCk3Exnc): community-reported fastest Lab clear visible in the YouTube community tab. Lab is the longest non-Office map at 9–12 minutes, making it the most contested speedrun target.
- Community attempt — "attempting to speedrun Project: Escape Room in roblox" (U_5E21zfCJc): multi-map speedrun attempt showing route commitment in practice. Covers School, Temple, and Prison.
- Jamie the OK Gamer — full walkthroughs for Lab (S07anrK_5H4), Temple (A7R61vSU510), and Pyramid (Ox51w7hvRCg): the baseline reference for clean routes before speedrun optimization.
- Dragonsubmann — Office Beginner walkthrough (7B6vjCHyhhs): full Beginner chain with lobby sign switch and cubicle 7 pin entry visible at 2:15. Best reference for the Office speedrun baseline.
Speedrun vs farming — what changes
- A speedrun prioritizes a clean first clear in minimum time. Farming prioritizes badge win rate (Challenge) or item collection (Beginner). Different goals, different routes.
- On Temple (~5.5% Challenge) and Pyramid (~6.5% Challenge), farming and speedrunning converge because the hardest maps reward route mastery equally.
- On Office, the mode split means a Beginner speedrun (7615 / C28 / 531624) and a Challenge speedrun (6482 / D36 / 314256) are effectively different games. Pick one mode per session.
- No tool or script can change keypad answers. The only real speedrun advantage is knowing the room layout from previous runs.
